Thoughts from the Well

A Transformed Life!

Have you ever seen the movie "Traffic"? It’s all about drugs and drug trafficking and the hell that goes along with it. My life was not so different from some of those kids in that movie. I can’t even imagine where I would be today with out Jesus in my life.

I still have friends that I grew up with who are now in their late fifties and earlier sixties who still do drugs every day. They even do drugs with their kids at home, just like so many of the parents that raised some of my friends did. And the iniquity goes on and on and on. "The sins of the fathers unto the third and forth generations" (Exodus 20:5).

Iniquity is that sin which can be passed on through generation after generation. It is the kind of sin that runs through family lines, or through groups of people. It is a "twist" or "bent" towards a perverse evil. Often times, unknown to the person sinning. It is a pattern of sin that has been passed on to them and they are powerless in their own strength to break that pattern.

We can’t break it, but Jesus can. Jesus didn’t only come to forgive us for our sins. Jesus came to give us a new life, right here and right now! He bore our sins and iniquities in His own flesh. Isaiah 53:6 says, "All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all."

Jesus died so that you and I can have "new life". A Spirit empowered life. A transformed life. Not only are our past sins wiped clean but the hurts and pains of a sad family heritage that have been passed on to us can be wiped away as well. Sins like drug and alcohol abuse, physical and mental abuse, pride and arrogance or any other sin that has plagued you in your life can be taken away through the blood of Christ Jesus.

Titus 2:14 says that Jesus, ". . . gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works." That is the really good new of the gospel. We not only have a future life in heaven to look forward to but we can have a supernaturally empowered life, right here and right now!

Are you tired of sin controlling you? Romans 8:37-39 says, "No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

So where are we? Jesus bore our sins on the cross in His own body so that we could have forgiveness for our past sins. Jesus not only took those sins but has also taken our iniquities or twists and bents toward sin that have been passed on to us through our family lines. Things that have shaped us from the very beginning of our lives. We can now have a transformed life with His spirit empowering us. Renewing us daily and shaping for us a totally new life right here on earth. We have the promise that we are "conquerors" through His shed blood. We can have that changed life, right here and right now! And finally, we have the promise that we can spend eternity with the one who has made all this possible, Jesus Christ our lord.

What more could we want? Thank you Jesus.

In Him,
Bill Fritz
