Thoughts from the Well
The
Search for the Real Jesus...
A honeymoon couple was in the
Watergate Hotel in Washington. The concerned bride asked, "What if the
place is still bugged?" The groom said, "I'll look for a bug." He looked
behind the drapes, behind the pictures, under the rug. Finally, he said,
"AHA!" Under the rug was a disc with four screws. He gots his Swiss army
knife, unscrewed the screws, and threw the screws and the disc out the
window.
The next morning, the hotel
manager asked the newlyweds, "How was your room? How was the service?
How was your stay at the Watergate Hotel?" The groom suspiciously asks,
"Why are you asking me all of these questions?" The hotel manager
replies, "Well, the couple in the room under you complained their
chandelier fell on them."
What you don't know really can
hurt you ... or others! What you don't know about Jesus could be
hazardous to your eternal health.
Allow me to place four important
questions before you. I'd like for you to seriously and honestly ask
them of yourself. Let me warn you: this is going to demand something of
you and you could possibly come under the conviction of the Holy Spirit
and that is often very uncomfortable.
1. Have I followed Jesus in believer's baptism?
You may object, "But baptism
isn't all that important!" It is not the most important thing in the
Christian life but it was important enough for the Lord Jesus to set a
good example for us. Let me ask you again as clearly as I can: Have you
been baptized after you placed your faith in Jesus Christ?
2. Have I received the power of the Holy Spirit?
It may be so simple you've
missed it but if you need the power of the Holy Spirit: Ask God!
3. Am I seeking to please God alone?
Can you honestly say that
pleasing God is your prime consideration in life? You've heard the old
adage; "You can't please all the people all the time." It's certainly
true. But I've discovered through the years that if I try my best to
please God, that most of the people around me who are also trying to
please God, those dear folks will generally be pleased as well.
4. Do I know and appreciate my spiritual
heritage?
Have you ever taken time to
contact your parents and grandparents and just say, "Thank you" for how
they provided a great spiritual heritage? Not all of you had that, your
parents or grandparents never took you to church: Don't be bitter. Let
go of your resentment. All that means is those of us who had a good
spiritual heritage should be much more thankful, because it is rare.
Are you
still trying to answer the question "Who was Jesus?" Or
have you come to the place where you are seeking to
answer Who is Jesus? He is the Son of God and He wants
to be your personal Lord. You can experience His life
when you trust Him with your life and your future. Are
you willing to follow Him? Will you trust Him as your
Savior? Will you follow Him in baptism? Will you rely on
the power of the Holy Spirit? Will you seek to live the
kind of life where you seek God's approval? Only then
can you fulfill what God intended for you from the very
moment that He brought you into this world. (Taken
